About me: I`m a 41 year old serving Whole-time Firefighter and recently qualified Personal Trainer who loves nothing more when off duty than getting into the great outdoors for some fresh air, be it on foot or two wheels. Never happier than when I am training or racing and always up for a challenge. My main focus currently is Triathlon but I have in the past tried my hand at a number of different sports/events, the highlights being Tough Guy races, Adventure Racing, Fell Racing, Marathons, Duathlons, Open Water Swimming, Sailing, Stair Running and Thunder Run Races. This year will involve a season of potentially 12 Triathlons, these range in distance from local Sprint races such as Pendle, Rossendale, Clitheroe and Skipton, up to Olympic distance races such as Liverpool and Chester, then some cracking middle distance races, all the way up to full Ironman distance race at the Tenby Long Weekend.
Favourite Events: These have to be the middle distance races such as Snowman, Slateman, Helvellyn and my season regular without fail `A Day in the Lakes’. Not the fastest or easiest of courses/routes but a suitable challenge set in some of the most beautiful parts of the country.
Favourite Achievement: Personally, qualifying and racing as a GB Age Group Triathlete for both the recent World Championships in Edmonton and European Championships in Geneva have been both challenging but fun and exciting times however some of my best memories racing have been from competing in team events. I have competed as part of a team of 8 four times now in the amazing 24hr Thunderun, finishing 2nd on two occasions but last year was lucky enough to be part of an amazing team that won the event. However the highlight of my year again will be as part of the team on the Deloitte Ride Across Britain LEJOG cycle ride. After initially riding the event in 2011 I now work it as a chaperone helping ensure others achieve their goal of completing what is a truly epic event and challenge.
Lessons Learnt: I feel I am constantly learning from my race experiences and now prepare myself so much better for each event. Especially with regards to fuel and hydration before and after both training and racing. I have been using the Mountain Fuel products so far this race season with great effect and have found they help not only in my race performance but have massively improved my ability to recover.
