Hardmoors 55There are a lot of races around the country, however none match the spirit and community feel of the Hardmoors series. It was for this reason we were delighted to become a sponsor and be part of the Hardmoor family.

Our first event was the HM55 and it was fortuitous that Mountain Fuellers Ste and Kate had great races and finished 1st male and female.

Commenting after the race they said;

Ste Lord, “The HM55 is an awesome route, it’s tough but when you get up on the tops and look out, it’s a massive Wow!”  On the race, “I ate and got fluids in early, ready for the climbs on the second half of the race and just held it together for the finish. Massive thanks to Jon and Shirley who are great organisors, the marshals and all my fellow runners who make Hardmoors a brilliant event to be part of.”

Katie Boden,
“Being my 4th Hardmoors 55, I loved that it was run in reverse with the hills later on, it made it feel like a totally different race and suited me perfectly. I enjoyed every moment, there was no pressure on me or expectation of winning. What a relief it was to get to Carlton Bank, it was tough going with such a runnable first half and then to battle those hills, not to mention Roseberry Topping at 47 miles!” On the final push from Roseberry, “I had a great day – despite running like a lunatic for the last 7 miles knowing Shelli (2nd lady) was two minutes behind me!  I’ve trained really hard but what helped me was being able to easily get the calories on board with Mountain Fuel. That was half the battle sorted and then throw in some determination and I was able to hold on.”

Like all races though there can only be  a few winners that pick up the prizes but for the majority it’s about personal goals and performance. It was fantastic to see so many positive comments on Facebook with many from our fellow Mountain Fuellers on how they had performed and felt post race and for us as sponsor that is the icing on the cake; haha, clearly a healthy nutritious cake!

Good training and determination are key in any activity and if you can add to this a quality nutrition strategy then you have the foundation to perform well. Mountain Fuel won’t give you wings or a roller coaster of sugar spikes… we simply want to help provide a balanced approach to your nutrition with fuels that give you a sustained energy release and effective recovery and aid your performance.

For those now preparing for the 110 & 160 your fueling strategy is key for such long distances and it may be worth having a read of Hardmoors veteran Dave Tromans’ blogs on ultra running and fuelling https://www.mountainfuel.co.uk/our-users/dave-troman/
