My love for off road running began about 4 years ago when I moved to Ulverston, just south of the Lake District. I’d always enjoyed racing mountain bikes but the freedom of moving over the fells on two feet gave me a renewed passion for the outdoors. A year later I’d completed the Bob Graham Round and had my eyes set on my First 100 miler in 2014, the Lakeland 100, where I surprised myself with a 5th place finish in under 24 hours.
Fast forward two years and having taken a career break to travel and run in some amazing parts of the world, I’ve also completed UTMB and won the Lakeland 100 and several other UK races and now have my sights set higher, wondering where the next 4 years of running will take me.
My nutrition tip would be to practice consuming 60g of carbs per hour in training and to mix it up when racing. Variety is key! Something solid, something liquid, something sweet and something savoury are always at hand when I race, so I’m always prepared for what my palate can manage come race day/night.
