Mountain Fuel Trial Pack

Mountain Fuel can be used as a Sports Nutrition system for any type of physical activity and can if needed fuel you for 24 hour+ events or simply taken individually to suite your energy or recovery needs.

Typically in preparation of an event if you wanted to utilise the whole system you would;

1. Mix up a Night Fuel the night before your event with hot milk or water, drinking/sipping it at around 7pm (in plenty of time before bed and last loo stop as we would also suggest, as you should have been throughout the last few weeks getting into the habit of sipping water throughout the day / early evening to ensure you are always fully hydrated). Just because you’re asleep does not mean you can’t prepare for your next training session or event, Night Fuel helps you get up raring to go, feeding your body at it’s optimum time of recovery.

2. Morning Fuel  (also available in Gluten Free, add a note when ordering if this is your preference) is mixed into a porridge type consistency and can be utilised as a pre-event meal as it is light on the stomach and quickly absorbed, it doesn’t have to be just for breakfast πŸ™‚ you can add seeds, fresh/dried fruit etc and even a small handful of oats if that takes your fancy. However bear in mind you want to start your event primed and ready to go and not with your stomach still working overtime breaking down your big breakfast / meal.

*We are aware of a print error on the ingredients list on our Gluten Free Morning Fuel – the ingredients sat Oat Powder (Gluten),  this is a typo, it should say Gluten Free.

Morning Fuel is extremely versatile and can be used to create fantastic snacks and pre-activity meals. Have a look at our Morning Fuel Power Pancakes which are perfect for getting you going and also while β€˜on the go’ along with our home made version of a gel – and our Morning Fuel Banana Flapjacks

3. If possible start sipping, swilling and swallowing your *Xtreme Energy Fuel anything up to four hours before your activity / event. Essentially the slower you drip your fuel into your system the more time the body has to absorb it and maximise performance. Some of our users, if they have had a hard week or are particularly keen on really pushing themselves will also sip, swill and swallow an Xtreme Energy the day before an event too, ensuring their system is alert, primed and ready. Xtreme Energy Fuel gives you a sustained energy release, is easy on the stomach, tastes great and is ideal for hard and fast anaerobic, cardio workouts or equally endurance events. You put the effort in and we’ll power you along.

4. Prepare your Ultimate Recovery Fuel and put it in a cool bag if you are using fresh milk as ideally you want to start sipping it within 20 minutes of finishing your event. However DO NOT drink it too quickly, however nice it may taste as it is the same principle as the Energy drink slowly in the system and the body will have more time to absorb it. Ultimate Recovery Fuel is a drink you want to exercise for! It tastes phenomenal and does what it says, there is no better Recovery product on the market.

*An Xtreme Energy Fuel can fuel you for a marathon where you take 3 to 4 hours, however we would say you get maximum benefit for up to 1 to 1 1/2 hours depending on intensity so any time after this we would suggest either carrying extra or having access to points on your activity.

“Many thanks, as always, to Mountain Fuel for ‘running with me’ yesterday on the London Marathon. I fuelled up with the Morning Fuel at breakfast and then had a Blackcurrant Energy fuel just before the start. It genuinely helps. This year I managed to get these old bones around in 4.27, 14 minutes faster than last year.” Ed Parker, CEO and founder of Walking With The Wounded

“Years of competitive cycling had put me off energy drinks which made me feel sick and I’d started relying on gels but this occasionally caused stomach cramps which isn’t what you want before you get to the finish… The overall nutrition strategy had worked really well with no cramp and no stomach problems whatsoever. The Mountain Fuel was fantastic and the fact I could still drink it after 12hrs shows how easy it is to use.” Andrew Slattery, Ultra distance fell runner

β€œI just kept going and going, leaving everyone behind as the ride went on.  It was like a Duracell advert!” Ian Turnbull, cyclist.

“Tastes great, easy on my stomach and keeps me going on my fell runs and long bike rides where usually I’d be getting hungry and feeling I need more energy. They’ve also helped me to get PB’s in my last two Tri’s πŸ™‚ “ Jonny Hume, tri and duathlete.

“This is the first recovery product I’ve tried that not only tastes amazing but actually works whatever intensity of activity I have done. No more sore legs the next day which is important as when I’m not training I’m on call as a fireman so need to be ready for action!” Paul Maxwell, Fell runner and Triathlete.

Please allow up to 4 working days (excluding weekends) for your order. However depending on the time of day your order is made you will often receive it within 3 working days.

Great first impressionsI stumbled across the Mountain Fuel website by chance although it did ring a bell with me as it turns out a mate who competes at an elite level in extreme triathlon events, already uses and loves their products.

What struck me as a difference to other sports nutrition products was their love of the outdoors, passion for the sports and their belief in nutritionally balanced supplements with no dirty sugar spikes (and crashes!). Competing as a triathlete I've always struggled with getting nutrition right and to this day I'll admit that I've yet to finish a race (or big training session) thinking to myself that I've nailed it.

Firstly top customer service. After some timely and helpful emails back and forth with the team I quickly received a sample pack on the other side of the world which luckily coincided with a planned couple of days of hot, hilly riding on the coastal and desert roads of Oman. Not an ideal time to test brand new products out but what the hell I thought I'd go all in and try their 4 level system anyway.

Starting the night before I took the night fuel, having just finished a good block of training I was feeling it in my body so thought I'd try maximize feeling as fresh as I could the next day. The morning fuel tasted similar to a sweet oat type shake I'd make anyway and although content wise it contained less carbs than I'd normally take in on a breakfast I was still in mind to go all in with their products and see what happened. Prior to heading out to ride I sipped on one sachet of the extreme energy fuel in 750ml of water during the hour before.

Over the course of the 2 days I rode over 200 miles in temperatures above 85 degrees including alot of climbing. Normally I'd try get 80-90 grams of carbs in me every hour through a mixture of drinks and gels however on this occasion I went purely on feel and listening to my body. The result being I used a fraction of what I would of if i'd 'planned' my nutrition for those 2 days however I never felt a dip in energy or the need to reach in my back pocket and suck on any of the gels that'd i'd brought with me anyway incase my little experiment all went wrong! Ultimate recovery fuel when i finished and I was good to go again the next day.

So overall what are my thoughts? I went into these rides using the MF products on the back on nothing but 60-90 min Wattbike sessions several times a week over the last few months due to work commitments. The legs were feeling pretty strong and I've also trained on nothing but water over the last 2 months in an effort to try tap into the bodies fat supply for fuel. I'm sure this contributed to how strong I felt on those days however I can categorically say that the mountain fuel products did aswell. Feeling strong, I felt steady, energy levels weren't up and down and I never had to reach for that gel to top up, that's never happened before.

So I'll be trying the products again for sure. I'll be racing several on the more extreme triathlons in 2017 in the UK and if I'm to have the success that I want at them, getting my nutrition nailed and finding something that works for me and my needs, is going to be the difference between achieving what i want to and being successful or not. I have a good feeling about MF products and I see no reason why they might not be my nutrtion of choice for the 2017 season. Cheers guys.

ps - I'm not one for writing product reviews as I generally find nothing really stands out enough to warrant them, I generally can't be assed and it doesn't really make a difference to me if it means I save a few quid by writing some words. If I like something , I'll buy it anyway so the fact that I've taken the time to leave a review speaks volumes, probably more than the words above themselves ;-) #justdostuff

Cracking FuelFirst time using Mountain Fuel so thought I would get the full package and give it a go. The plan was to use it in training for and on the Chester Marathon. In the past I have had issues with gels. Unfortunately I bought a little too late and I only had a chance to try the Xtream Blackcurrant and the chocolate recovery before the event and really did like the taste of both, the recovery drink is the best milkshake I have ever tasted and this is from someone who really does not like chocolate milkshakes. Come the night before the day of the race I tried the overnight fuel and again another wow, really chocolaty. In the morning I got up and tried the morning fuel, a little too sugar for my taste but it did well, I filled my bottles with the tropical Xtream and set off for the long drive to Chester. It was only my second Marathon with my first being the Dark Skies in March with a time of 5:15. I was sensible even though my training was saying just over 4 hours and went with the 4:30 pacers (cracking pair of gents). All went well with the drink mixed with a chunk of trek bar (sorry I know they are not yours) every hour and water every 5k, I did have an issue at mile 20 (who doesn't somewhere on the marathon) and I got to the end wishing I had taken the other Blackcurrant Xtream as I really do prefer the taste I was more than happy with my time of 4:32 (two toilet stops..sorry too much information). When I got back to the car I mixed up my Strawberry recovery drink and was a tad disappointed that it was not as good as the Chocolate one but again that was down to personal taste and not the product.
In regards to does this stuff work I can honestly say I was out on Monday for a 5k so I must have felt good, it was not quick but I was out.
I'm looking forward to a few more marathons next year with maybe something a little longer very soon, all powered by Mountain Fuel.
A shaker bottle would be more use than the Sports Bottle but other than that and the taste of a couple of bits I'm a really happy boy with not feeling the long run effects that I had from gels in training.
